About CARECEN: From Refuge to Resilience
Founded over 42 years ago by Salvadoran and Central American refugees, CARECEN began as a small refuge for families fleeing war and persecution. Today, it stands as a national leader in immigration legal services, policy advocacy, and community organizing—transforming lives and building power across Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.
Defending Unaccompanied Youth and Immigrant Families
Among CARECEN’s most vital initiatives is its representation of unaccompanied immigrant children and youth—many of whom have fled violence or instability in their home countries. Through trauma-informed, culturally sensitive legal representation, CARECEN ensures these young people are not left to face immigration court alone.
Their team also provides essential legal services such as asylum and humanitarian relief, DACA and TPS renewals, family petitions, and protection for survivors of violence or trafficking. Every case they take on reaffirms a simple truth: every immigrant deserves dignity, safety, and a fair chance to succeed.
Advocacy Beyond the Courtroom
CARECEN knows that lasting change requires more than legal aid—it requires power. Their community organizing and policy teams lead “Know Your Rights” campaigns, build civic engagement, and train emerging leaders across Los Angeles. When families face immigration raids or crises, CARECEN’s rapid response teams mobilize immediately—offering legal defense, family coordination, and essential supplies through their Day Labor Center, even after facing targeted enforcement attacks this year.

With a strong presence in San Bernardino and the Inland Empire, CARECEN bridges access gaps for immigrant families in underserved regions, particularly those impacted by detention at Adelanto. Despite funding challenges, their dedication never falters—continuing to stand as a vital safety net for those most in need.
